Christopher Agorsor

New World Developers

Development is Christopher Agorsor’s second career. His first, as a professional soccer player, involved hard work, dedication, passion and a strategic understanding of what he could control and what he could not. The career, in the span of a lifetime, was always going to be short.

In his second act, Christopher Agorsor is the managing principal for New World Developers, LLC in Washington, D.C. His outlook is longer and it requires him to understand that community passions or concerns about projects often extend far deeper than the specifics of what he is proposing. “Sometimes a project just comes along and it's the face for a lot of angst in the community about crime or traffic or schools. You just have to kind of take that and recognize, wait a minute, my project is great, but this is what's really bringing everybody together.”

The firm’s portfolio is a mix of commercial and residential holdings that include retail shopping centers and multifamily properties in D.C. and Virginia. Christopher oversees investments, development, and the acquisition of potential investment opportunities while balancing relationships with a variety of current and potential capital partners.

The firm manages three to four projects a year. Active development projects include a $7.5 million-dollar multifamily project and a $27.2 million dollar shopping center. Geared towards families with children, the multifamily unit is a redevelopment of a historic mansion located in a designated opportunity zone. The project will include three-bedroom units, 40% of which are slated for affordable housing. The 27-acre shopping center project, located near a Metro, will be anchored by an international grocer and a variety of local retail establishments.

Christopher holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Virginia, where he was an NCAA champion in men’s soccer. He played in the major leagues for teams in the United States, England, and Portugal before an injury forced a change in direction. New World Developers was created in October of 2012 and emerged as a management firm that grew into real estate projects, and later added construction management. After receiving his Master of Science in Real Estate Development and Finance from Johns Hopkins University Christopher moved into the development arena as a property holder.

Since June of 2015, Christopher has been the director of the McDonogh School’s Alumni Board.  In this role, he supports an annual $2.5 million dollar capital raise towards the McDonogh Fund, the $130 million dollar endowment for the McDonogh School. Additionally, he is the Vice President of the Johns Hopkins Edward St. John Real Estate Alumni Forum and the Director of Fundraising and Chair for the After School All Stars Washington D.C. Advisory Board.

The workforce housing and the affordable housing component is something that really makes our community stronger. It helps with the reduction of crime and is better for retail. If we have the right kind of housing for everybody, everybody wins.
